The Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology started functioning in the year 2008.
The Department is training MBBS students in the various fields of Forensic Medicine viz, Medical Jurisprudence, Medical Ethics, Medical Negligence, Forensic Pathology, Forensic Psychiatry, Forensic Toxicology and Examination of sexual offence cases.
Students are provided with Competency Based Medical Education Curriculum (CBME) under NMC guidelines 2024 in the form of Lectures, Tutorials, Seminars, Group discussions, Self-directed learning, Mock court, AETCOM sessions DOPS and OSPE.
Post-graduate course (MD) in Forensic Medicine was started in 2020, recognized by NMC. The Department admits three postgraduate students every year, who are trained in Medicolegal works-such as Autopsy, AR entry, Examination of sexual offence cases, Expert evidence in courts, Medicolegal documentation and Age Estimation.
The Department has a wonderful Museum and Library with broad collection of Forensic Specimens, Charts, Models, Photographies, Weapons, and Books.
Every year Forensic CEP is being conducted in collaboration with Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University with credential points and hours, awarded by NMC. Faculties, PGs and UGs participate enormously and get updated in Forensic Knowledge.
Researches are being encouraged and conducted by UGs and PGs under the excellent guidance of highly qualified Forensic Experts.
